unHero

Privacy

This policy covers this website and every game we make, on iPhone, iPad and in a browser. Short version: no game asks you to create an account or tells us who you are, your scores and settings stay on your own device, and we would rather not hold your data than work out how to store it safely.

This website

  • Every page of unhero.com loads Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views. Each view records the page you opened, the referrer that sent you there, and coarse details of your device and your country. It sets no cookie, writes nothing to your device, and assembles no profile that follows you anywhere else. What it produces is a count of pages, under Vercel's privacy policy. A tracking blocker that stops the request breaks nothing on the page.
  • Every page also loads the unHero web bar, the button in the bottom right corner that lists the games. It stores nothing, sets no cookie, and sends the same Vercel Web Analytics events the rest of the site sends.
  • No cookies are set, and no page of unhero.com carries a tag manager or an advertising script.
  • Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your own browser's localStorage under the key unhero-theme. It never leaves your device and we cannot read it.
  • Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), so your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them. That request carries your IP address and is subject to Google's privacy policy.
  • The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, request time, user agent) for operational purposes under Vercel's privacy policy.
  • Links out to the App Store and to the browser builds take you to services with their own policies.

The games

No game we make asks you to create an account, and none asks for your name, email address or location. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to post and nobody to chat with. We do not know who plays our games, and we have no way to find out.

Your scores, your progress and your settings are kept on the device you played on, in your browser's localStorage or, in an app, in its own storage. They are not sent to us and we hold no copy. Clearing your browser's site data, or deleting an app, removes them; some games also offer a row in their own settings that erases what they have kept.

No game we make carries advertising, an advertising identifier, a crash reporter, or a third-party tracking SDK. None asks for your camera, microphone, contacts, location, health or fitness data. Most of them make no network request at all once the page has loaded.

Page views on a browser build

A game we publish in a browser may count page views through Vercel Web Analytics, under Vercel's privacy policy. It records the page, the referrer and coarse details of the device and country — enough to know whether anyone is playing and on what. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and builds no profile that follows you to other sites. The numbers are aggregate; there is no way back from them to a person. A tracking blocker that stops the beacon breaks nothing. Our iPhone and iPad apps have no analytics in them at all.

Apple's services

Some of our iPhone and iPad games use Apple's own services, and only in their iPhone and iPad builds:

  • Game Center, for leaderboards and achievements. What leaves the device is a score and a milestone, tied to the Apple ID you are already signed in with. Who that is belongs to Apple, not to us. Declining to sign in leaves the game playing exactly as it does otherwise.
  • The App Store, where a game offers an optional purchase: to show the price, to take the payment, and to confirm that what you bought is yours. Apple handles all of it. We never see your payment details, your Apple ID or your name.

Both are covered by Apple's privacy policy. The browser builds use neither — the code that talks to Apple is switched off in every browser, including Safari on iPhone.

Apps downloaded from the App Store are distributed by Apple, which reports its own aggregate statistics to us as the developer — how many times an app was downloaded, and in which countries. Those figures are counts, not people, and we cannot identify you from them.

Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Our games contain no user-generated content, no chat and no advertising.

Your rights

Where a law such as GDPR or CCPA gives you the right to see, correct or delete personal data a company holds about you, you can exercise it by writing to hello@unhero.com. In practice we expect the answer to be that we hold nothing about you. Game Center entries are held by Apple rather than by us, and are managed in your Apple account settings.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, which is itself a privacy feature.
